A resident of the Village at Victory Lakes nursing home in Lindenhurst, Illinois developed a state II pressure ulcer while a resident at the facility. Any pressure ulcer that presents at a nursing home facility or other health care facility is almost always a result of nursing home neglect.

The first indication that the situation at Village at Victory Lakes failed to improve is the fact that the nursing home failed to take appropriate action to prevent the bed sore from getting worse. The resident was questioned by nursing home inspectors about his care. He stated that the only time the staff gets him up from his wheelchair during the day is if he needs a bowel movement.
Leaving a resident for long periods of time without readjustment is one of the key factors in acquiring bed sores.
Bed sores are wounds that develop on nursing home residents in the event of nursing home neglect. They range from stage I (characterized by discoloration and soreness) to stage IV. Stage IV bed sores are open wounds that can often extend all the way to the bone.
They are extremely painful and often prove fatal as serious infections develop. A resident with a stage II bed sore (also known as pressure ulcers) should never be left in a wheelchair for more than an hour or two. Constant readjustment is critical to treating a bed sore.
Conflicting information was contained in the resident’s charts. One note claimed that the resident often refused care. Another note stated that he was pleasant and cooperative.
Bed sores are almost always a sign of nursing home neglect because they are caused by the most typical symptoms of nursing home neglect. Being left for long periods unattended, consistent dampness, and dehydration and malnutrition have all been identified as causes of bed sores.
